Your little ones will love this super simple Christmas sensory bin!
What I love about this sensory invitation is how simple it is to put together and kept my toddler twins engaged for quite some time.

I had the green and red rice stored in containers, so all I had to do was pour them into our Shallow tub for play!
Colouring rice is super simple, and you can find tons of methods to do so online.

This is the simple method I use, and you can adjust accordingly.

What you will need to colour your rice:

• 1 cup uncooked rice
• 1 tablespoon vinegar
• Liquid food dyes
• Sandwich bags
• Measuring cups and spoons
• Baking tray

How to make coloured rice:

Add a cup of uncooked rice to a sandwich bag and then a tablespoon of vinegar and several drops of your food dye of choice. The vinegar helps to disperse the colour evenly.

Seal the bag and shake it around, coating the rice evenly.

Once the rice has been coated, spread it out onto your baking tray and leave it out to dry.

Coloured rice can be used over and over for some years, I found out through research! Once your little one is finished playing, store it in an airtight sealed container.

What I added to the Sensory bin for play:

I added all the little trinkets I found at the dollar store!

• Christmas erasers
• Wooden Christmas themed pieces
• Green and red buttons
• Wine corks in the shape of a Christmas tree and presents.
• Small Bells
• Christmas bulbs

This time of year, there are so many miniature Christmas items that are available in the Dollar Stores, so feel free to get creative!

With all the trinkets in the coloured rice, it was time for my girls to play!

While playing, the girls and I discussed and identified all the items in the bin, which was great for reviewing letter sounds and developing language skills.

While they learned through play, they were pouring, scooping, and transferring the sensory bin filler. When our little ones pour, scoop, and transfer, they’re actually developing important math skills like volume, weight, and more or less.

I also wrote numbers on the buttons in the bin, which gave us a great opportunity to work on the important skill of one-to-one correspondence.
