How to use our Fun and Funny Alphabet Jingles to teach kids how to read
- Sing or say the jingles on a daily basis. (With my children, I find the jingle for the letter we are focusing on. When you have covered a few letters, have your children repeat the jingles they know daily as children learn through repetition.
- Pause the video and have children identify the upper and lowercase letters.
- Point on the words as you read and introduce each jingle. After reading the jingle a few times, sing or say it softly so that you can listen to students as they reproduce the sound of each letter, intervening when necessary.
- Play a game of ‘I spy’ with the vocabulary words and have children find and spell the words. This is a great way to challenge students who know more letters than you have covered and a great way to review letters previously taught.
- Print jingles and use them for a literacy center. Children can read, highlight or write words.
- Work with students to reword or recreate jingles of their own.
- Have students craft items from the jingle.
