I just love all the beautiful fall colours! especially the brightly coloured apples! We started our homeschooling journey this year with the theme All About Apples and are sharing some of our simple and fun activities.
Here is a simple activity you can use to teach/review the letters of the alphabet with toddlers, preschoolers and kindergarten-aged children this fall.
This activity was done on the floor, but I learned a critical lesson as we were busy matching the letters on the floor! Next time when working with such a large base, it is best to tape it to the wall or a door; add some velcro or tape and allow my little ones to match that way. That is the only thing I would have done differently.
Materials you will need to recreate this activity:
- Apple accents (The ones I used I got for under a dollar from Micheals.)
- Construction paper
- Markers
- Glue
- A container to place your apples in to present them to your child if you wish.
How to recreate this simple activity:
Step1: Gather all your materials. Decide on the paper you will use for the base of your tree. I made our tree out of cartridge paper because I am working with twins, so instead of doing two of the same activity, I create jumbo activities for them.
Step2: Draw the shape of a tree on your green paper and cut it out.
Step3: After drawing your tree, use brown construction paper to draw the bark of your tree.
Step4: Use your glue to join the two pieces together.
Step5: Use the outline of an apple to trace apples onto the green part of your tree. I used apple accents I purchased at Micheals for under a dollar. If you can not find any accents, construction paper apples will do. I would suggest cutting one apple first out of paper/cardboard and then using it to draw the others so that all your apples are consistent in size.
Step6: Use your marker to write the lowercase letters onto your tree and the uppercase letters on your apples.
Step7: Present your child with all the apples in a container, and it is time for some learning fun.
The girls worked together as a team in order to find and match the upper and lowercase letters. I absolutely love activities that foster teamwork.
While the girls worked on matching the uppercase and lowercase letters, we worked on all the letter sounds.
The girls were super busy trying to blend sounds to make silly words. They now understand that letters go together to make words.
The girls had so much fun reviewing letters and their corresponding sounds.
Send us pictures of your little ones doing this activity so that we can share them in this article!😊
