How inviting is this simple hands-on activity? I love play dough: red, green, yellow, blue, scented or unscented. When working with play dough, the possibilities for learning are endless! There is just so much incidental learning that is always taking place.
This beautiful and simple low prep apple-themed play dough invitation was so easy to put together. What I love about this activity is that it was created with materials you can find in most homes with young children.
Below I will share with you how to put this simple invitation together that will keep your child busy for an extended period of time.
Materials you will need:
- Green play dough.
- Cardboard to create a base for your invitation.
- Green, red and yellow chickpeas.
- Wooden container.
- Wooden tongs.
- Markers
- Crayon
- Contact paper to put on cardboard so that your dough does not dry out.
Here is a list of additional materials that can be used for this play dough invitation:
- Buttons
- Beads
- Beans
- Cubes
- Small blocks
- Decorative stones
- Pom poms
- Painted stone
- Bottle caps
- Small blocks
Steps for putting this apple-themed play dough invitation together:
Step1: Gather all the materials you will need.
Step 2: Cut the cardboard to the size you wish to use.
Step 3:Draw your apple trees onto the cardboard.
Step 4: Use a brown marker or crayon to colour the tree trunks.
Step 5:Outline your apple trees with a marker.
Step 6: Cover the cardboard with contact paper, so your play dough does not dry.
Step 7: Roll out and flatten the green play dough on the outline of the tree top.
Step 8: Put your chickpeas into a container and present your child with tongs for them to place the chickpeas on the tree, pretending they are apples. My girls used the tongs and their hands to put the chickpeas into the play dough.
