We made these beautiful posters and alphabet crafts because all littles, at some point, will need to learn to recognize letters and their corresponding sounds, as these are prerequisites for developing confident and fluent readers.
What is Letter Recognition?

Letter recognition or alphabet recognition is the ability to:
- Identify the similarities and differences among the 26 letters of the alphabet.
- Say the letter names.
Why Should Children Learn the Letters of the Alphabet and their Corresponding Sounds?
Children who know the names of the letters and their corresponding sounds are operating at an advantage:
- Children who know letter names learn the sounds of the letters much more quickly and can express when objects in their environment begin with a particular letter.
- Children who can easily name the letters of the alphabet and reproduce the sound of each letter have an easier time learning to read, which is a skill all children must possess.
- As they learn the letter names and sounds, children become more confident to discover more about the letters and words around them.
So whether you are a parent or teacher, we can all agree that teaching the letter names and sounds to our little ones is essential, and these simple yet beautiful and engaging crafts and posters that can be used at home or in any classroom will help you to do just that.
What Is Included In Our Poster and Crafts Download
Our set includes 26 animal letter posters and crafts. Each poster is complete with the name of the animal being displayed, giving your little ones the opportunity to put their knowledge of letter sounds into practice, as they learn new words extending their vocabularies.
Our crafts are super easy to assemble! We tried our best to create pieces that would be easy for little hands to manipulate!
To assemble crafts:
- Follow the link at the end of this blog to download our free PDF.
- Print and cut out the pieces. If your littles are up to the challenge, you can allow them to cut out the pieces with supervision.
- Provide your littles with glue and allow them to complete their craft. (I allow my girls to use gluesticks.)
- You can choose to use the eyes provided with each craft or allow your little ones to use googly eyes to complete each craft.
- You can display your little one’s craft on a wall or compile all 26 crafts to make an animal alphabet book. (Also, in the future, you can allow your littles to add sentences to their alphabet book when they are learning sight words!)

Most littles love to learn exciting and interesting facts about animals. Below are facts for each animal included in our Animal Alphabet Crafts/Poster Pack if you decide to make an animal alphabet book with older children.
- A is for Alligator. Alligators are fast swimmers and do most of their hunting in the water.
- B is for Bee. Bees use nectar from flowers to make honey.
- C is for Cat. Cats are really good jumpers and can jump six times their height, landing on their 18 toes.
- D is for Duck. Ducks can fly in the air, waddle on land and swim in water.
- E is for Elephant. Elephants spend 16 hours per day eating and are the largest living land animals.
- F is for Fox. Foxes live in underground dens where they take care of their young and hide from predators.
- G is for Goat. Goats are very energetic and can jump over five feet
- H is for Hippo. Hippos are great swimmers and can hold their breath for up to five minutes underwater.
- I is for Inchworm. Inchworms are really caterpillars that eat at night when fewer predators are around.
- J is for Jellyfish. Jellyfish have no blood, brain, bones or heart.
- K is for Kangaroo. Kangaroos use their strong tails for balance while jumping.
- L is for Lion. Lions live in groups called prides. A pride can have as many as 30 lions, depending on how much food and water is available.
- M is for Moose. Moose are tall and can weigh more than 1,300 pounds. That’s as heavy as a car!
- N is for Narwhal. Only male narwhals have tusks which can grow up to 9 feet long.
- O is for Octopus. Octopuses use their powerful arms to build dens out of rocks to live in.
- P is for Parrot. Parrots can live until they are 80 years old.
- Q is for Quail. Quails can lay 10-20 eggs at a time.
- R is for Raccoon. Raccoons are nocturnal. Meaning they are active at night and sleep during the day.
- S is for Snake. Snakes have flexible jaws which allow them to eat prey bigger than their heads.
- T is for Turtle. Turtles cannot come out of their shells so their shells grow with them.
- U is for Unicorn. Unicorns are imaginary creatures similar to horses with a single long horn.
- V is for Vulture. Vultures eat animals that have died in the wild. Without them, dead animals would rot and smell.
- W is for Worm. Baby worms are not born. They hatch from cocoons smaller than a grain of rice.
- X is for X-Ray Fish. Female x-ray fish can produce 300 to 400 eggs at a time which they lay among plants in the water.
- Y is for Yak. Yaks have firm, dense horns which they use to break through snow to get the plants that are buried underneath. They also use their horns in defence.
- Z is for Zebra. Zebras can sleep while standing up.
